If you blindly apply a short-term T-Bill rate to discount a 20-year cash flow projection, you will artificially inflate the discount rate, leading to an undervalued stock recommendation. A prudent analyst recognizes that T-Bills reflect the ‘cost of cash’ in the immediate future, whereas Dated G-Secs reflect the ‘cost of capital’ over the life of an investment.
