This friction can erode projected earnings and invalidate the assumptions built into your discounted cash flow models or credit rating assessments.
Consider the case of a corporate treasurer needing to unwind a large, off-market interest rate derivative. On an exchange, the clearing corporation facilitates a neutral closing trade. In the OTC space, the company is at the mercy of their counterparty’s internal pricing and risk appetite.
