A precise analyst builds a line-item projection, categorizing expenses into ‘must-haves’ and ‘variable lifestyle choices’ to create a realistic floor for the retirement withdrawal rate.
Ultimately, the quality of your recommendation hinges on the granularity of these inputs. By isolating expenses that drop off at retirement and adjusting them against the rising healthcare inflation index, you move from a generic projection to a bespoke financial strategy. A model that fails to differentiate between a loan repayment that terminates at age 55 and recurring grocery expenses that escalate with inflation will inevitably provide a skewed view of the capital required at the retirement date.1
